Avaintec, a Finnish company with 15 years of experience in healthcare data structures and the utilisation of data in artificial intelligence services, is joining the CleverHealth Network (CHN) ecosystem. In our interview, CEO Pekka Kuosmanen and data analyst Mikko Järvensivu shared insights into the company’s background, ambitions and expectations for the collaboration.
Avaintec is well-known for its expertise in healthcare information systems, with a particular focus on predictive care and intelligent data management artificial intelligence assistants designed based on data in both local and national data repositories and data lakes. These include integrations with patient information systems, social care systems and other patient care applications. The assistants are using international classification standards such as RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument) and ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health). The company is ISO-certified for information security, quality and healthcare software and equipment. At the moment, the company is actively working to acquire the cerfication of two new ISO standards required by the EU AI Act.
A key feature of Avaintec’s operating model is the development of AI assistants, which do not create new data registries in Avaintec cloud environment. Instead, the AI solutions support various healthcare processes, such as remote care and symptom assessment for children (ChildScreen), predicting the risk of child and youth custody cases (CustodyChief), mental health risk prediction (MentalChief), and rehabilitation and functional ability assessment (RehabScreen). The mental health solution in particular is seen as a strong fit for the focus areas in CleverHealth Network. Avaintec is also exploring AI-assisted re-admission prevention for post-operative care.
When asked why Avaintec was keen to join CHN, Pekka Kuosmanen highlighted the critical importance of data in developing AI: “CHN provides access to essential data and opportunities for collaborative clinical research. It may also open doors to international cooperation and help us expand our own networks.” Avaintec aims to identify use cases where joint projects can be launched and is prepared to bring their expertise in data science and analytics to CHN collaboration when needed, thus creating mutual value.
Avaintec brings to the network a wealth of experience in AI projects, deep knowledge of social services as well as healthcare sector, and a robust cloud service offering (AI as SaaS). One area of particular interest for further research could be medication assessment where CHN’s data resources could prove invaluable.
As for the ideal outcome of this partnership, Avaintec hopes to develop two or three new AI assistants for predictive healthcare solutions with international export potential, all based on advanced data-driven information systems.
