Finnish money pays for data security in St Petersburg

Finnish data security providers are setting their sights on Russia. The Finnish IT Security Show, which will be held on Wednesday in St Petersburg, is sure to get the ball rolling.

The event is being hosted by the Baltic Institute of Finland, Insta DefSec and St Petersburg IT & Telecommunications Committee. Finnish companies also involved in the event are Esko Otava, Avain Technologies, Ubisecure and Valimo Wireless.

The primary objective is naturally to chart the market situation in St Petersburg as well as establish new business contacts. According to Sami Rantanen, Security Systems Vice President, new customers also interest Insta DefSec.

– “Gathering the relevant market data helps in planning operational development,” explains Rantanen.

According to the organisers, the event, which is the first of its kind in St Petersburg, has attracted a great deal of interest. The Finnish delegation expects to meet around one hundred representatives from Russian companies, institutes of higher education and the municipal administration during the course of the day.

Next autumn the organisers are planning for a line-up of Finnish IT firms at the Inforsecurity trade fair in Moscow. The Finnish IT Security Show is part of the eSt Petersburg II co-operation project between Finland and St Petersburg. Its goal is to promote the development of St Petersburg’s electronic municipal administration.

The project is also expected to introduce concrete, cross-border co-operation opportunities for data security and general IT industry companies. Funding for co-operation is provided by the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications and the City of St Petersburg.
